Closing One Chapter Before You Can Begin Again

Feb 14, 2026
Quiet winter park bench symbolising reflection and new beginnings in midlife

If you’ve been reading along over the past few weeks, you may have noticed something shifting quietly in you.

Perhaps you’ve started questioning old patterns.
Perhaps certain expectations feel heavier than they used to.
Perhaps you’ve become more aware of what drains you — and what nourishes you.

Or perhaps you’ve simply felt more tired than usual, more reflective, more inward.

None of this is accidental.

In energetic terms, we are in the final days of the Wood Snake year. In Eastern elemental philosophy, the Wood Snake year supports internal reorganisation; it invites release not through effort, but through awareness.

Much of this work happens beneath the surface.

On the 17th, the Eastern New Year begins and the energy shifts into the energies of the Fire Horse.

But before momentum gathers, there is a final window — a quiet opportunity to complete what you have been wanting to clear away from the past.

In life terms, this is your last few days to consciously shed what no longer belongs.  A perfect opportunity to look at your life and let go of those things that are not serving you or are holding you back.

It doesn't have to be in a dramatic, "new year, new you" kind of way. But instead, a conscious acknowledgement of the things that need releasing.

This is the Time to Close the Old, Before Approaching the New

The Wood Snake year has been about shedding, internal reorganisation, and awareness.

It has been about noticing:

  • What drains you?
  • What constrains you?
  • What feels manipulative, stagnant, misaligned, or simply too small for who you are becoming and who you want to be?

As this cycle closes, you have a choice to use it as an opportunity for real change by closing down the power and influence of these old habits, behaviours and sabotages.

You can rush into the next chapter carrying it all with you.

Or you can take a few intentional days to clear it properly.

Because what isn’t consciously released has a habit of quietly following us and continuing to undermine us.

The Work Beneath the Surface

You may not feel as though you’ve “achieved” much this year.

But inner shifts rarely look dramatic.

Perhaps you have:

- questioned patterns you once accepted
- noticed where your boundaries were missing
- grown tired of repeating old dynamics
- felt less willing to tolerate what once felt normal

That is not nothing.

That is growth.

Wood as an element represents growth — but healthy growth requires space. — but healthy growth requires space.

Without clearing away what is unhealthy or constraining, growth becomes tangled and choked.

Don’t Skip This Opportunity

Many women move from one phase of life to the next without ever closing the last one, or letting go of the past.

We survive.
We cope.
We adapt.
We blame ourselves.
We allow others to control and undermine us.

But we rarely stop and ask:

What am I finished with now?
What pattern am I ready to stop repeating?
What behaviour is undermining my ability to change?
What should I let go of?

Closure isn’t dramatic.
It’s regulatory.

From a nervous system perspective, closure and release allow the body to settle and reset. It signals completion, courage, and confidence, and it creates space for growth and opportunity to thrive.

You Can Do This Anytime, But Now is Perfect

This is not about magically reinventing yourself overnight, you do not have to sort it all in these last few days.

It’s about acknowledging what you need to shed and granting yourself permission to release it:

Permission to remove toxic or misaligned dynamics.
Permission to say, “That version of me has served its purpose, but it does not serve me anymore”.

You do not need to make big announcements or drastic changes right now, not unless it feels appropriate.

But sometimes, shedding is internal - it is simply deciding not to do something anymore.

That decision alone changes your direction and allows you space to let something new in.

If you're still not sure how to shift this then try using my Get Unstuck Workbook to help you prepare yourself for the next phase.  It is designed to help you reflect, release, and begin again with clarity and confidence.

Granting yourself permission to stop repeating old sabotaging behaviours.

Preparing for the Fire Horse

As the Fire Horse energy approaches, the focus will naturally shift toward movement, expression, and momentum.

But healthy momentum will grow faster from a more solid and stable foundation.

So before we reach the 17th, you might sit with this again as preparation:

What else am I ready to leave behind?
What lesson has this year taught me?
What am I no longer willing to carry into the next phase?
What would be my ideal starting point for a new phase?

Because when we close consciously, we don’t drag the past into the future - and this creates a lighter and more confident energy to start anew.
